As a flute virtuoso and a composer, he composed many Fantasia and Variations, chiefly for the flute and flute duets. He formed a flute duo with his younger brother Karl, they became quite popular and sensation in Europe. Op.33-38 composed during their tour in Europe(1852-1862). This piece ‘American’ was originally written for flute, violin and piano. Doppler used the material of famous American songs at the time to create this captivating and joyful piece.
Claude Debussy(1862-1918): Nuit d'étoiles
Claude Debussy was an influential French composer. He was an innovator and the originator of modern "impressionist" music. His works had a profound impact on the music of European and American countries. Debussy composed "Nuit d'étoiles" at the age of 14, which based on a French poem "Last Memories of Weber" by Theodore Pomville. The music style of late Romanticism and early music of Impressionism intertwined here. "The starry sky at night, the mist, the breeze blows, the fragrance hits... I dream of the lost love", the flickering melody depicts the protagonist's reminiscence of love under the deep night sky.
Paul-Agricole GENIN(1832-1903): Fantaisie sur La Traviata Op. 18
The opera ‘La Traviata’ is one of the popular trilogy by Giuseppe Verdi, an Italian romantic composer. It’s also popular in the history of world-class opera. Among the flute adaptation of ‘Fantasia of La Traviata’, this piece was most performed ,which composed by Paul Agricole Génin. It’s interesting that the theme melody runs through from beginning to end. Each variation is developed from the theme melody. Even the mood of each paragraph is different, the theme melody keeps running through the piece.
Emmerich Kálmán(1882-1953): Heia heia, in den Burger is meine Heimatland
Hungarian named Kálmán Imre, Hungarian composer, mainly known for his creation of operetta, is one of the important representatives of Vienna operetta in the late Romantic period. His style combines Vienna waltz and Hungarian folk . The characteristics of the tune are beautiful melody and distinctive national style. His masterpieces include the operetta "Die Czardas fürstin" etc.
François DEVIENNE (1759-1803): Flute Concerto No. 7 in E minor
François Devienne was one of the most important French composer, flutist and Bassoon player in the classic period. Since his works sounds classy and gorgeous, the style was in some degree similar to Mozart, that’s why he so called “French Mozart”. The Flute Concerto no.7 was written around 1787, it sounds more expressive and showy in technique. Some cadenza even appears in the middle of the second movement, which was quiteunusual at that time. Even the chords and rhythm were not complicated, the melody was more like dramatic opera singer. That’s the unique charming of Devienne.
